This handsome sweet boy is Sparky! Sparky is from Koyuk and his family found out about Straw For Dogs from another family in Koyuk who also received a house from us earlier this year.

Sparky's family loves him and was doing the best they could for him but his house was falling apart and just wasn't providing enough protection for him anymore.

Sparky looks pretty content in his new double walled, insulated dog house, hopefully his new house will give him enough room for lots of straw for him to burrow into and will keep him safe and comfortable.

Thank you to BERING AIR and Everts Air for getting this house out Sparky for us! We are so grateful for all of the discounts and donations we receive from the air carriers in Alaska. We could not help as many dogs without their support.

If you would like to help us continue to provide insulated shelters for dogs living outside in Alaska please donate at www.strawfordogs.org

Thank you!

Sweet little girl LEXIE from Huslia did not have a dog house at all so her family reached out to Straw For Dogs to get her an insulated house and straw as part of our 2025 RIVER PROJECT!

She looks pretty excited for her new house and her family said she loved all of the attention she got while they were working on setting it up. Hopefully she will get more family time on a regular basis, she looks very friendly and loving....We wish we were able to meet all the dogs in person....WE WOULD LOVE to play with LEXIE!

Her family has asked us for an inside area for Lexie, either a big crate or possibly an xpen so this is a good indication she will get to spend some time inside with her people.

We know her chain is short. It is temporary, her other chain broke, we are sending Lexie a long tie out.

We will be building another 50 houses to send out on the barges next month!

Thank you to Ruby Marine for partnering with us for our 2025 River Project and for sending all of these big heavy houses out to the communities along the rivers free of charge.

Thank you to Lotto Alaska for funding our 2025 River Project! We could not help nearly as many dogs living outside in Alaska without your support!

Ruby Marine and Lotto Alaska are helping us make lives better for dogs in Alaska. Please support them and thank them!

This cute little button is MAX! Max lives in an rural community along the rivers in the interior. So MAX got on of our RIVER PROJECT HOUSES! (look at his baby picture....is he not the cutest little fuzzball?)

Little Max is just a baby and mostly lives inside but he still needed a safe shelter for his time outside. Although Max is lucky and will always get to spend some time inside with his family, as he gets bigger he may spend more time outside so his people reached out to Straw For Dogs for an insulated house.

Max just wasn't sure what to make of this big ole house but we think he will eventually go in and check it out. Once he gets inside he will realize it is his own little den for his outside time.

Thank you to Max's family for reaching out to get him a safe space for his outside time.

Thank you to David Lambert, Lotto Alaska, and Ruby Marine for making our 2025 River Project possible.

The first year of our River Project was 2024. We sent out 91 houses and 94 bales of straw. This year we expect to send 109 houses and over 150 bales of straw. All funded by Lotto Alaska and delivered free of charge by Ruby Marine. We are so grateful for this support, we would not be able to help as many dogs and families without them!

Please thank Ruby Marine for their generosity and please play Lotto Alaska to help non-profits like Straw For Dogs!

UPDATE: Forget Me Not animal rescue has raised over $12,000 from this post in basically the last 24 hours....Which is AMAZING!!!

Thank you to everyone who donated and sent words of encouragement!

I know that several of our regular donors contributed to Forget Me Not’s campaign to pay off their vet bill. Thank you so much for helping them and thank you for all of your support to Straw For Dogs as well. We have the most generous big hearted supporters!

We support Forget-Me-Not Animal Rescue and our friend Michelle Kougl. Rescue is heartbreaking and it can make even the strongest most driven people want to give up at times.

Michelle needs our help. We need to raise her up and give her the strength and support to continue to do this gut wrenching work.

Please donate if you can. If you can’t just send love and write some words of encouragement. Thank you! 🙏🏻

THANK YOU Evergreen Tattoo Company!

Thanks to these extremely talented amazing animal lovers Straw For Dogs received $5,610 in donations. Evergreen Tattoo Company had 8 people who volunteered to donate their entire Sunday to raise money to help dogs living outside in Alaska.

THIS DONATION WILL PROVIDE 14+ INSULATED DOG HOUSES AND STRAW TO DOGS WHO NEED THEM!

The flash fundraiser was supposed to be from 12-7 but all of the artists stayed until 8 or later trying to get as many people done as possible.....AND THIS WAS NO ORDINARY DAY. There was a HUGE line at 12 when the event began, these artists worked incredibly hard with basically no breaks to make the most of their fundraiser for Straw For Dogs.

This is the first time anyone has done something like this for us, and to see how hard everyone was working to support our cause was extremely moving....We were very humbled by this outpouring of support.

We cannot thank these individuals enough. Thank you so much to SARAH CHRISTINE MAXWELL, GLENN VAIL, JOHN RODRIGUEZ, SYDNEY HARRIS, JOSE GONZALEZ, DANNY FIGUEROA, NNIKIA, and LEXII GRIEFE!

Thank you to all the people who came out for this event and waited so patiently (some since 10:30) in line in the extremely warm waiting area!

There are still a few days left to vote for the 2025 Readers Choice Awards and Evergreen Tattoo Company is nominated for BEST TATTO/BODY PIERCING. Please take a minute and vote for these amazing animal lovers, so they can continue their reign as #1!

The last 4 pictures are a couple before and after examples of dogs we have helped. This is what the money raised will do. We will use it to provide insulated houses and straw to dogs living outside in Alaska who have no shelter at all or inadequate shelter!

We wish all dogs could live inside with their families (at least when they want to) but unfortunately that is just not a reality for many dogs in Alaska. Until the laws and social norms change, getting them an insulated house and straw is something we CAN DO to provide some relief to them RIGHT NOW. While we continue to work toward those bigger changes!

Kenai was adopted from the Mat Su Animal Shelter. As he had previously been kept outdoors, his caretaker contacted us right away for help setting up a cable run and requested a doghouse to help make him comfortable while transitioning him to time in the home.  Kenai...

Niho

Niho's family contacted us for a doghouse, citing a disability in the family. Our volunteer visited and built an insulated house for her along with providing toys, straw and treats. What a cutie!

Buddy

Buddy was found by a Good Samaritan with a badly broken leg. We offered extensive veterinary care and support to this sweet boy and his rescue angel. He has healed up well and is a happy, healthy boy, living with his personal rescue angel and another dog.

Mickey Mouse

Mickey Mouse came to us from Anchorage Animal Care and Control. He was brought there as a young puppy with a broken leg.  Pit bull type dogs like him have limited options for rescue, so we were happy to be able to help, thanks to his long term foster...

Dozer is a lovable lug who was in need of a safe place outdoors. Luckily, his family was open to receiving assistance and in addition to care packages with toys, treats, bowls and a new collar, volunteers were also able to build him a kennel and a warm, insulated...

Butterball and Charlie

Butterball and Charlie enjoy spending time outdoors exploring but were without a shelter. Straw For Dogs worked with their family to provide a shelter with a porch so that these sweet boys have options. We provide care takers with information about using straw instead...
